Raimona National Park is the 2nd National Park in Bodoland and 6th in Assam. The park is in the Kachugaon forest division, Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

On 5 June 2021, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared Raimona a National Park during the World Environment Day at Gandhi Mandap in Guwahati. The official notification was published in the Assam Gazette Notification no. FRW.02/2021/27 on June 8, 2021, and the area officially became a National Park on June 9, 2021. This declaration transformed the Ripu-Chirang Wildlife Sanctuary of Kachugaon into the 6th National Park of Assam.

Raimona National Park (RNP) is a part of a contiguous forest patch of 422 km2 (163 sq mi). It covers the northern part of the Ripu Reserve Forest which spans 508.62 km2 (196.38 sq mi), forming the westernmost buffer to Manas Tiger Reserve situated in the foothills of Eastern Himalaya Biodiversity Hotspot.

The park is bordered by the Sonkosh River on the west, along the inter-state boundary of West Bengal and Assam from Indo-Bhutan border up to fire line Ride-6 southwards (BP30).

On the east, it is bordered by the Saralbhanga River, and runs northwards to the Indo-Bhutan international boundary on the north, with the rest of the Ripu Reserve Forest on the south. The southern boundary runs eastwards along the fire line Ride-6 until it reaches Pekua River where it turns at 90 degrees southwards until it reaches the fire line Ride-3.

The park is located near the Himalayan foothills. It joins with Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary of Bhutan and Buxa Tiger Reserve of West Bengal to form a large area for protecting nature, over 2,400 square kilometers.

So far, there is only one entry gate in Raimona National Park Assam for tourism purposes. Visitors can reach the Raimona entry gate via Kachugaon or Gossaigaon town routes.

Flora: More than 380 species of plants, including tropical evergreen forests, cane, bamboo, orchids, and open grasslands are found.

Fauna: The area is home to the Golden Langur, Elephant, Tiger, Clouded Leopard, Indian Gaur, Wild Buffalo, Spotted Deer, Chinese Pangolin and many more.

Avifauna: Over 170 species of birds, including Hornbills, and many more can be found.

Best time to visit Raimona National Park

The best times to visit Raimona NP Kokrajhar are from mid-September to October in Autumn or from March to mid-May in Spring when the weather is typically perfect. The park is open for visitors from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
