In a recent cabinet meeting, the government decided to provide 3.78 lakh bicycles among Class 9 students studying in government schools.

Assam Government Bicycle Scheme
The Assam Government distributes bicycles annually for the students studying in government schools of class 9. The government has taken a decision aiming to reduce dropout rates and enhance access to education in remote areas. In the year 2023 (3,69,454) students of Class IX (for both boys and girls) were given free bicycles involving a financial outlay of Rs.161 crore.
