Bicycle Scheme for Class 9 Students Assam The Assam Government, led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, has made a significant decision to encourage students to attend school. In a recent cabinet meeting, the government decided to provide 3.78 lakh bicycles among Class 9 students studying in government schools.

Assam Government Bicycle Scheme
The Assam Government distributes bicycles annually for the students studying in government schools of class 9. The government has taken a decision aiming to reduce dropout rates and enhance access to education in remote areas. In the year 2023 (3,69,454) students of Class IX (for both boys and girls) were given free bicycles involving a financial outlay of Rs.161 crore.
The Bicycle Distribution
The Assam government has organised a 12 Days of Development Programme to distribute scooties under the Banikanta Kakati Merit Award, cash prizes via the Anundoram Borooah Award, and bicycles through the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme.
