100 Years of “Bibar” Laisi: Kokrajhar Government College commemorated the 100th anniversary of the first Bodo language magazine, “Bibar Laisi,” on Sunday, 12 May 2024, with a centenary celebration.

During the event, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, the cabinet minister of Assam unveiled a souvenir “Thaijiri.”

About Bibar Laisi (Bibar Magazine)

“Bibar” laisi was the first magazine written in the Bodo language during a period called the “Bibar Mooga Era,” from 1920 to 1937. The first editor of the magazine was Satish Chandra Basumatary and, it was published by then Bodo Students’ Union “Bodo Satro Sonmilan” in 1924.

According to the reliable sources, Bibar laisi not only initiated Bodo literature but also presented the first Bodo poems and prose. This magazine has eight volumes and it includes work from several writers in Bodo and Assamese languages.
