In line with the National Education Policy (NEP), The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has been constituted through an Act in 2024, subsuming SEBA “The Board of Secondary Education” and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), to create a cohesive and efficient school education system in Assam, under the order by The Governor of Assam Notification.

The Chairman and Vice Chairman of ASSEB Board
The Retired IAS Shri R.C Jain, who was the former Chairman of SEBA Board has been appointed as the new Chairman and Shri Rukma Gohain Barua as the Vice Chairman of the ASSEB Board. R.C Jain who was the former chairman of SEBA board and Rakuma Gohain Barua was the Chairman of previous AHSEC Board, they have been nominated for 3 year term or until they turn 70.

Difference between SEBA and AHSEC
SEBA is an education board where they conduct HSLC(High School Leaving Examination) for class 10 students whereas AHSEC is a education board where the examination of class 12 is conducted in Assam, The Governor of Assam has now merged both the boards and turn it into a single board, named it as “Assam State School Education”.
