Assam Cabinet Meeting 16 January 2025 : During the Assam Cabinet meeting on January 16, 2025, held in Morigaon under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, several significant decisions were made. These included: measures to prevent tragedies like the Umrangso Mine incident, the launch of projects worth Rs.292 crore in the Morigaon district, initiatives to boost entrepreneurship, the approval of SOPD-G funds for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), strategies for the effective management of Anganwadi centers, and investments at securing a brighter future for the state.
Assam Cabinet Meeting Decision 16 January 2025
The following are the key Cabinet decisions highlighted in the recent meeting.
1. Assam cabinet decision on the Umrangso Mine Tragedy
- Rs. 10 lakh will be given to the families of the four deceased individuals in Umrangso Mine Tragedy.
- The next of kin of the five missing individuals will also receive Rs. 10 lakh compensation, regardless of whether they are found alive or dead.
- A judicial inquiry commission, led by Justice Anima Hazarika, former judge of the Guwahati High Court, will be set up to investigate the matter and hold the responsible officers, individuals, and institutions accountable.
- A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be developed to enforce a complete ban on rat-hole mining in the state.
- A Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be formed to investigate the entire incident based on the FIR already registered. The SIT will be supervised by Retired Justice Anima Hazarika.
- The Mines and Minerals Department, in coordination with central agencies, will take steps to shut down all existing rat-hole mines wherever they are located.

2. Assam cabinet decision on the transformation of Morigaon District
- Road Connecting Balimukh to Sildubi via Bhuragaon- Rs.70 cr
- Drainage System for Morigaon Town- Rs.55 cr
- New Circuit House Construction Morigaon- Rs.15 cr
- Stage in Junbeel Mela area- Rs.5 cr
- Completion of pavilion and other facilities in Khirod Barua Stadium- Rs.5 cr
- Fitting Memorial of IIaram Das Baap, Jaluguti- Rs.5cr
- Auditorium named after IIaram Das Baap, Morigaon- Rs.20 cr
- Guest House at Mikirbhata- Rs.1 cr
- Tiwa Sahitya Sabha Bhawan- Rs.1 cr
- Kapahera Stadium-Rs.3 cr
- Development of 9 schools above 100 years in the district- Rs.8 cr
- Development of 8 Prominent Colleges- Rs.5 cr

3. The Cabinet has approved an increase in the state’s share capital in Assam Power Generation Company Ltd., raising it from Rs.3,000 crore to Rs.6,000 crore.
4. The Cabinet has approved Rs.2000 crore for implementation of MMMUA & CMAA for 2024-25.
5. The Cabinet has approved release of R. 401.50 crore SOPD-G funds for projects to be implemented in BTC.
6. Guidelines for the implementation of the MMMUA have been approved, and the ceremonial distribution of seed capital is scheduled to commence in April 2025.
7. The Cabinet has approved an increase in the state’s capital in Assam Power Generation Company Ltd.
