Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma was a social and religious reformer in the 20th century for the Bodo Society. He implemented revolutionary changes through continuous reformation within the Bodo community.
He is respectfully referred to as Gurudev or Guru Brahma by the Bodo people residing in the lower Assam.
The birth anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan has been approved as a restricted holiday in Assam, and also, in honour to pay tribute to Gurudev, the Assam Rupsi Airport has been renamed the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Airport.

Kalicharan Brahma Early Life, Education & Family
Kalicharan Brahma was born on April 18, 1860, in Kajigaon village, Dhubri district, Assam, India. His parents were Khoularam Mech and Randini Mech. Originally named Kalicharan Mech, he grew up to be intelligent, honest, and thoughtful.
He received his pre-primary education at home with a private tutor named Birnarayan Mech, because there was no school nearby. Later, he attended Tipkai primary school and then Puthimari M.V. School. However, when his father passed away while he was in fifth grade, Kalicharan had to return home despite his desire to continue his education. He took on the responsibility of managing the household and eventually became a timber merchant like his father.
Kalicharan, at the age 18, married Kwmsrhi and had two daughters, Dondi and Nilini. However, earlier in Bodo society, having a son was highly valued as sons would inherit property and carry on the family name. In order to have a son, Kalicharan married Upashi Brahma. Fortunately, they had three sons and two daughters.

Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Works
Kalicharan realized the need for change in the Bodo Scociety, understanding that preserving their identity and unity required a shift in both society and religion.
In 1906, he attained diksha in the Brahmo Dharma / Brahmoism Adi Brahmo Samaj in Calcutta.
Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma became a great religious preacher of the Brahma faith. He brought revolutionary changes in Bodo society by his continuous and sustained programme of reformation against the prevailing Bathou worship.

In honor of paying tribute to Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, the government has decided to make some important decisions.
- The Assam government is to rename Rupsi Airport as Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Airport. The Chief Minister of Assam has tweeted this on X platform.
- At the November 26, 2024, Assam Cabinet Meeting, the decision was made that Kalicharan Brahma’s birth anniversary is approved as a restricted holiday in Assam as Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Jayanti.
