Martyr’s Day Bodo Sahitya Sabha: The Martyrs Day of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) is observed every year on 28 Sept at the various locations in the districts of Bodoland Territorial Region(BTR).

In the year 2024, The BSS will be celebrating Martyrs Day for the 50th times, remembering the death anniversary of martyrs of the movement. Amla Ram Boro and Siba Ram Boro who became the first martyrs in the hands of Assam Police.

The Bodo Sahitya Sabha recognize Martyrs Day to tribute the martyrs of Roman Script Movement. BSS remembers Martyrs day with solemnity, holding a flag hoisting ceremony and offering a flower tribute to honor the brave martyrs.

What is Roman Script Movement?

Roman Script Movement is a movement that began in the year 1974, after the Bodo Sahitya Sabha settle to demand the use of Roman script for the Bodo language. The purpose of the movement is to protect the Bodo community and developed it’s language and culture and heritage.

In the month of September 1974, The Assam Police forces opened fire on people in various locations across the state, resulting unfortunate loss of 15 innocent lives where the movement got an momentum.
