About Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme

The Anundoram Boorooah Award Scheme (ARBAS) was launched by the Assam Government in 2005 under the then Congress-led administration to honor Anundoram Borooah, who was the first Assamese and fourth Indian to join the Indian Civil Services. He was also the first Indian to become a Deputy Commissioner and was known for his scholarship in Sanskrit, having authored several books including a Sanskrit-English Dictionary.

From 2005-2019, students who secured 75% marks on the HSLC Exam received a laptop and 2 years of Internet Connection Subscription. However, in 2020, the reward was changed to a cash prize of Rs.15,000. Now, from 2022 the cash prize has increased to Rs. 16,000.
